PODS & U-Box Loading in East Haven and New Haven: A Planning Checklist

A portable container can give you flexibility, but the loading day still needs a clear plan. A Plus Moving LLC provides labor-only loading and unloading for customers who arrange their own PODS container, U-Box, rental truck or trailer. This checklist explains what to prepare, what our crew can help with and when a truck-and-crew move may fit better.

1. Decide who is providing transportation

With labor-only service, you arrange the container or vehicle and its transportation. Our role is the agreed handling work: loading, unloading and any packing or furniture tasks included in your written quote. Container rental, delivery and pickup are arranged separately with your provider.

If you want the mover to provide the truck and transportation as well as the crew, ask about A Plus Moving's full-service options. Packing, materials and specialty handling should be discussed individually so the written scope matches the help you need. Neither option should be treated as an automatic all-inclusive package.

2. Confirm the container location before setting the crew's arrival

Ask your container provider about placement, delivery access and pickup timing. Then confirm property-owner or building approval for the proposed location. If a container would occupy public space, check the applicable requirements with the responsible local office rather than assuming permission is automatic.

For an East Haven driveway or a New Haven apartment, the important question is the actual route from your doorway to the container. Send photos showing the loading entrance, stairs, walkway, parking area and container position. Mention slopes, uneven surfaces, tight turns and any gate or doorway that could affect access. A longer carry or restricted entrance can change the work involved even when the household inventory is small.

3. Share the size, number and timing of your containers

Tell us the provider, container size, number of units and whether the job is loading, unloading or both. If delivery has not happened yet, explain the expected delivery window. Avoid scheduling a loading crew on the assumption that the container will already be onsite; coordinate the sequence and keep us informed if the provider changes its timing.

Container capacity depends on the dimensions and quantity of your belongings as well as how they can be arranged. A room count alone cannot establish that everything will fit. Photos or an itemized list help us review the scope, but do not guarantee capacity.

4. Get boxes and furniture ready for the agreed service

If you are packing yourself, close and label boxes before loading day. Mark the destination room and identify fragile contents. Keep paperwork, medication, keys and items you need immediately separate from the load. Ask your container provider which items it prohibits and how it requires the shipment to be prepared.

Discuss furniture padding, wrapping, tie-downs, packing materials and assembly or disassembly before booking. Confirm who will supply each item and which tasks are included. If you need packing help, say so while requesting the quote rather than adding it unexpectedly when the crew arrives.

5. Flag heavy or unusual items early

Identify pianos, gun safes and other unusually heavy or awkward pieces before the move. Provide available dimensions, approximate weight, photos and the full access route, including stairs. These items need a separate handling review; do not assume they are covered by a standard container-loading request or that every access route is workable.

6. Prepare the unloading side too

Loading is only half the plan. At the destination, confirm container placement, building access and where large furniture should go. For apartments and condos, ask management about elevator reservations, loading entrances and permitted moving hours. Share those details with the unloading team before the date. If you are moving beyond our local area, arrange destination help separately unless it is expressly included in your written agreement.

What to send A Plus Moving for a written quote

Send your preferred date or date window; the loading or unloading address; container or truck size and quantity; inventory or room-by-room photos; stairs and elevator details; parking and carry distance; packing or furniture tasks; and any heavy items. Tell us whether you already have transportation or need our truck and crew.

The next step is a scope review and written quote. Availability, crew size, minimums and any applicable travel or specialty terms must be confirmed for your particular job. Hourly pricing is not a guaranteed final total.

Choose the help that fits your move

A Plus Moving LLC serves East Haven, New Haven and Connecticut customers with labor-only and full-service moving options. Container loading can work well when you want to manage transportation yourself; a truck-and-crew move may be a better fit when you want that part handled too.

Request your written quote with the checklist above, or call 203-493-7799 to discuss the work you need.
