Furniture Delivery in East Haven & New Haven: A Fit-and-Access Checklist

A furniture pickup can be only a few miles from the delivery address and still require careful planning. A sofa may be ready at a New Haven store while the destination has a tight East Haven stair landing, or a marketplace seller may expect the buyer to arrange loading. The useful question is not only whether the item fits inside a truck; it is whether the pickup, route and final room are ready for the agreed work.

Use this checklist when requesting furniture delivery from A Plus Moving LLC. It helps the office review the actual item and access. It does not guarantee that an item will fit, promise crew availability or include assembly, disposal or specialty handling unless those tasks appear in the written agreement.

1. Confirm the pickup release before choosing a crew window

Ask the store, seller or property contact when the item may be released and who must be present. Record the exact pickup address, department or unit, loading entrance and contact number. Confirm whether identification, a paid receipt, an order number or written authorization is required. A requested moving window is not a store pickup appointment.

Find out whether the item will be boxed, wrapped, assembled or placed at a loading area. If it is still on a sales floor, inside a residence or in a warehouse rack, describe that honestly. A Plus Moving can review handling and transportation; the crew should not be expected to settle a sale, approve a return or resolve missing release paperwork.

2. Measure the item and identify removable parts

Measure the item's maximum width, depth and height, including arms, trim, feet, handles and other projections. For sectionals or modular pieces, measure every section separately. Provide photos from several angles and identify glass, stone, mirrors, adjustable bases, electrical components or delicate finishes.

Tell the office which legs, shelves, doors, cushions or other parts are designed to come off and whether the manufacturer supplies instructions. Do not disassemble an unfamiliar item simply to make the numbers look smaller. Note any tools, fasteners or packaging that came with it. Measurements help with planning, but they do not establish that every turn or stair angle will work.

3. Measure the complete route at both addresses

At pickup and delivery, measure the clear opening of every doorway the item must pass through. The useful width is the available opening with the door in its real position, not just the size of the frame. Then check hallway width, tight corners, stair width, landings, ceiling height, railings, gates and elevator doors.

Walk the route from the proposed truck position to the item's starting point and then from the destination entrance to the final room. Photograph narrow areas and take a short video when a turn is difficult to explain. Decide the intended placement before delivery so the crew is not asked to test several rooms while holding a large piece.

4. Explain parking, carries, stairs and building rules

Share the actual loading area at both locations and the expected distance to the door. Mention floors, exterior steps, interior flights, slopes, gravel, grass, uneven walkways and any area where a truck cannot approach. If the building uses a loading dock, service entrance or elevator reservation, give the allowed hours and contact requirements.

Confirm parking or public-space requirements with the responsible property manager or local authority. Do not assume a moving truck may block a lane, driveway or shared loading zone. Keep the route clear and dry where possible, and tell the office if weather or construction could change access.

5. Separate delivery from assembly, hookups and disposal

State exactly what you want done at the destination: room placement, limited disassembly for access, reassembly, packaging removal or removal of an old item. Furniture delivery does not automatically include wall mounting, plumbing, electrical or gas hookups, storage, disposal or assembly. Those tasks require separate review, and some may need another qualified provider.

If the seller offers curbside loading only, say so before the date. If a store will place the item in the truck, confirm that arrangement directly with the store. Agree in writing who supplies padding, wrapping or other materials and which preparation tasks belong to the customer, seller or moving crew.

6. Flag heavy, delicate or unusual pieces early

Identify sleeper sofas, stone or glass tops, cabinets with fixed glass, pianos, safes, large appliances and other unusually heavy or delicate items. Provide available weight, manufacturer information, dimensions and clear route photos. If an appliance is involved, confirm it is disconnected and prepared as required before the crew arrives.

Anthony must review specialty handling, route feasibility, applicable terms and crew needs. A photo or measurement alone is not a promise that the item can be handled through a particular opening. Do not schedule a seller pickup on the assumption that specialty approval is automatic.

7. Match the service to the transportation plan

For a full-service furniture delivery, explain whether A Plus Moving's truck and crew are needed and list every stop in order. For labor-only help, you supply the rental truck, trailer or container and its transportation; include its size and loading position. If several items are coming from different sellers, treat each pickup as a separate access and release check.

Send the preferred date or window, both addresses, item list, photos, measurements, access details, loading rules, requested placement and any added tasks. The office can then review the scope and prepare a written quote. Hourly pricing is not a guaranteed all-in total, and a quote request does not reserve a date.
